Kippy Brown, a veteran NFL assistant coach who spent 22 seasons in the league, died on Monday, Aug. 31, at age 71. Brown served as an associate coach for the Detroit Lions during their winless 0-16 campaign in 2008 under head coach Rod Marinelli. Throughout his career, he coached for seven different NFL teams, including a tenure with the Seattle Seahawks during their Super Bowl championship season in 2014. Before his coaching career, Brown played for the Memphis Tigers from 1974 to 1977 and became the first Black quarterback in the program's history. He was the youngest of 13 children.
