Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Alan Knight dies at age 65

Former Portsmouth goalkeeper Alan Knight has died at the age of 65 following a prostate cancer diagnosis in 2024. Knight spent 22 years at Fratton Park, establishing a club record with 801 appearances between 1978 and 2000. He made his debut at age 16 with a clean sheet against Rotherham and became the only Portsmouth player to represent the club across four different decades. Following his retirement, Knight served as a coach and club ambassador and received an MBE along with the Freedom of the City of Portsmouth. After his diagnosis, he became a public advocate for prostate cancer awareness and participated in local walking football programs. His final appearance for the club occurred in January 2000 during a match against Norwich.
