Former Red Sox manager Joe Morgan dies at age 95

Joe Morgan, the former manager who guided the Boston Red Sox to two American League East titles, has died at age 95. The team announced his passing on Sunday. Morgan took over as manager during the 1988 season and led the club to an 89-73 record, sparking a stretch of success famously known as "Morgan Magic" that included 12 consecutive wins following the All-Star break. He continued to manage the Red Sox for three additional seasons and remained involved with the organization for nearly two decades in various roles, including as a scout and coach. Morgan was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2006. Team officials acknowledged his legacy by drawing parallels between his 1988 tenure and the current team’s performance during the 2026 season following a coaching change in April.
