Former Stoke City forward Harry Burrows dies at age 85

Stoke City confirmed the death of former forward Harry Burrows at age 85. Burrows joined the club from Aston Villa in March 1965 for a fee of £27,000. During his eight-year tenure, he recorded 79 goals in 281 appearances, placing him 13th on the club’s all-time scoring list. He played a key role in the squads that reached FA Cup semi-finals in 1971 and 1972, though he missed the 1972 League Cup final due to injury. After departing Stoke in 1973, he played for Plymouth before concluding his career. Former teammate Terry Conroy described Burrows as a genial person known for possessing one of the hardest shots in professional football.
