Kippy Brown, who served as the first wide receivers coach for the Houston Texans, died this week at the age of 71. Brown joined the franchise in 2002 after being hired by head coach Dom Capers and spent four seasons with the organization. During his tenure, he played a role in the development of Hall of Fame receiver Andre Johnson, who credited Brown for helping him transition into a professional player. Following the 2005 season, Brown interviewed for the Texans' head coaching position before the role was awarded to Gary Kubiak. Throughout his 22-year NFL career, he held assistant coaching positions with several teams, including the Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, and Detroit Lions. Brown also served as the head coach of the Memphis Maniax in the 2001 XFL season and was a former standout quarterback at Memphis State.
