Formula 1 introduces new power unit rules for 2026 season

Formula 1 will implement a major overhaul of its power unit specifications for the 2026 season. Teams will use a 1.6-litre V6 turbo hybrid power unit generating over 1,000 horsepower, featuring a 350kW electric motor. The new regulations eliminate the MGU-H, enhance the MGU-K’s output from 120kW to 350kW, and introduce a minimum car weight of 768kg. These changes are designed to improve sustainability, with all power units running on fully renewable fuel. The FIA approved these specifications in August 2022, providing manufacturers four years for development ahead of the new regulations coming into effect.
