Four Pitt football greats nominated for 2027 Hall of Fame ballot

Four former University of Pittsburgh football players and coach Jackie Sherrill have been placed on the 2027 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. The nominees include Matt Cavanaugh, who led the Panthers to a national title, Craig 'Ironhead' Heyward, Antonio Bryant, and Sherrill, who boasts a successful coaching record. Cavanaugh played from 1975 to 1977 and was a First Team All-American, while Heyward had a notable rushing season in 1987 and was a consensus All-American. Bryant achieved First Team All-American status in 2000 and won the Biletnikoff Award. The 2027 Hall of Fame Class will be announced in early 2027, with induction taking place during the 69th NFF Annual Awards Dinner. The inductees will be honored at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame.
