Frances Tiafoe rallies to reach the U.S. Open semifinals

Frances Tiafoe advanced to the U.S. Open semifinals on September 8 after overcoming a two-set deficit against Alex Michelsen. The Maryland native dropped the first two sets 7-5 and 6-3 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center before winning the final three sets 7-5, 6-3, and 7-6(6). This victory marks the third time the College Park product has reached the semifinals at this tournament. During the match, Michelsen recorded 10 aces and held the momentum early, but Tiafoe improved his record to 3-17 in matches where he trailed by two sets. Tiafoe maintained a 52 percent success rate on his second serve throughout the comeback. He refined his game at the Junior Tennis Champions Center, a facility his father helped construct, and now prepares for the next round of competition.
