Fred Smith Jr. officially signed with the Memphis basketball team on June 1, 2026. A standout from Briarcrest, Smith is a two-time TSSAA Division II-AA Mr. Basketball honoree and the first top-100 recruit from Memphis during Penny Hardaway's coaching tenure. He is ranked No. 98 in the 2026 class and committed to the Tigers on April 9. This summer, he will join fellow incoming freshmen Cello Jackson Jr. and Parker Pounds for training. Memphis is set to open the 2026-27 season against Iowa State on November 2.
