Freeride skiing and snowboarding join 2030 Winter Olympics in French Alps

The International Olympic Committee has approved the inclusion of freeride skiing and snowboarding for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps. This marks the Olympic debut for freeride disciplines, which will feature four medal events: men's and women's ski and snowboard, with 22 athletes from each gender competing. The change is part of the IOC's review to enhance gender parity in the Games, matching Paris 2024's initiative for the Summer Olympics. The 2030 Winter Olympics are expected to include 3,046 athletes with equal participation from women and men. Freeride's growth and recognition have been bolstered following the FIS's acquisition of the Freeride World Tour in 2022 and the official recognition of the discipline in 2024.
