Freshmen contribute to Washington defense in 24-10 Apple Cup win

The Washington Huskies defeated Washington State 24-10 in the Apple Cup on Saturday. Head coach Fisch started three true freshmen on defense, including Derek Colman-Brusa, Ramzak Fruean, and Jeron Jones. Jones recorded an interception in the second quarter following a pass deflection by Colman-Brusa, setting up a 5-yard touchdown run by Demond Williams Jr. While Fruean and Colman-Brusa contributed to the pass rush, the defense held Washington State to its lowest scoring total in the rivalry series in a decade. Despite 130 yards of penalties, the Huskies relied on a rotation that utilized both the freshmen and experienced players throughout the game. The team continues to integrate the younger defensive players as they look ahead to the remainder of the season.
