Gabby Williams named captain of French team for FIBA World Cup

Gabby Williams has been appointed captain of the French national basketball team ahead of the FIBA Women's World Cup. The Golden State Valkyries forward will lead the squad in competition starting this week in Germany. This appointment marks the first time since 2014 that an active WNBA player has captained France at an Olympic Games or FIBA World Cup. Williams, who assumes the leadership role previously held by Valériane Ayayi, is scheduled to make her 56th appearance for the team when they face Hungary on Friday. The roster includes eight WNBA players and is aimed at competing for a championship following a narrow loss to the United States during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
