Gainesville athlete Sebastian Jimenez secures bond release from ICE detention

Gainesville High student-athlete Sebastian Jimenez and his mother, Anmary Mayela-Peroza, won an immigration bond hearing in Texas on Thursday morning. The pair were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on August 22 and subsequently taken to the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley, Texas. While a hearing was initially scheduled for September 8, officials moved the proceeding to Thursday. Ashour Peera, the football coach at Gainesville High, confirmed that the bond is expected to be posted by the afternoon. Following the release, both are scheduled to return to Florida later today. Other family members, including Fernando Bortolozo and Fabiana Morillo Peroza, remain in detention at the Baker County Detention Center near Jacksonville.
