Gainsborough Trinity condemn imposter contacting players and clubs

Gainsborough Trinity have issued a formal condemnation after an individual began impersonating manager Russ Wilcox to contact players. The club, which competes in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, stated that the imposter has been making unauthorized transfer and wage offers to players across the non-league pyramid. CEO Matt Boles confirmed the club became aware of the situation after other managers and officials contacted Wilcox to verify the legitimacy of the approaches. One agent reported receiving an offer for a player that included an unusually high transfer fee. The club has reported the incidents to the Northern Premier League and the Football Association to address the potential for illegal approaches and reputational harm. Wilcox stated he has been involved in football for more than 40 years and has never encountered a similar situation.
