The Gainesville Sun continues its countdown of the top 30 players from the 1996 Florida Gators national championship football team, featuring Donnie Young at No. 11. Young, a 6-foot-4, 299-pound guard, started all 13 games during the championship season and earned All-SEC first team honors. He was integral in protecting Heisman-winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, who passed for 3,625 yards and 39 touchdowns. Florida's offense led the nation in total offense and scoring. This retrospective coincides with the 30th anniversary of Florida's first national title, achieved with a 52-20 Sugar Bowl victory over Florida State.
