Gennaro Gattuso resists Lazio bid to sign free agent Mauro Icardi

Lazio sporting director Angelo Fabiani remains interested in signing free agent Mauro Icardi, despite resistance from head coach Gennaro Gattuso. While the Italian transfer window closed on September 1, the club continues to explore options to reinforce its attack with the former Inter Milan captain. Gattuso prefers to maintain squad balance and has advocated for the inclusion of Andrea Pinamonti, who arrived from Sassuolo. Pinamonti is currently working to establish his place in the starting lineup following a difficult debut against Udinese. The 27-year-old striker is expected to feature in Saturday’s match against AC Milan, where his performance may influence whether the club pursues further offensive signings. Pinamonti and Icardi share a history from their time together at Inter Milan, with the younger forward previously citing Icardi as a mentor.
