Georgia Southern shuts out Charleston Southern in season opener

Georgia Southern began its 2026 college football season with a 31-0 victory over Charleston Southern at Paulson Stadium on Saturday. The Eagles held the visitors to 117 yards of total offense, including just eight rushing yards throughout the contest. In the first half alone, the Georgia Southern defense limited Charleston Southern to five total yards. Max Johnson, in his first start as the Eagles' quarterback, completed 28 of 39 pass attempts for 281 yards and one touchdown. Head coach Clay Helton noted that while the performance was a positive start, the team has room for improvement following its opening outing. Georgia Southern now prepares for a road game against Clemson scheduled for September 12.
