Ghana appeals for a penalty against England in goalless draw

During a World Cup match on June 23, 2026, Ghana and England played to a goalless draw. Late in the match, a controversial incident occurred when Prince Adu was challenged in the box by Ezri Konsa. No penalty was awarded, despite replays showing that Konsa did not make contact with the ball. Pundits were divided, with Wayne Rooney and Micah Richards suggesting a penalty should have been given. The VAR did not review the incident, as FIFA's head of referees emphasizes a higher threshold for penalties in the World Cup.
