Giancarlo Stanton returns to Yankees lineup in Game 1 against Rays

Giancarlo Stanton made his return to the New York Yankees on October 4, pinch-hitting in the ninth inning against the Tampa Bay Rays. It marked his first appearance since late April, following a lengthy recovery from calf injuries. Stanton struck out against Rays closer Bryan Baker and did not tie the game in the Yankees' 1-0 loss. Despite the strikeout, manager Aaron Boone noted that Stanton appeared comfortable and had a solid at-bat. Stanton was previously available for the Yankees' Wild Card Series but did not play. He could have batted in the eighth inning, but a double by Austin Wells ended in an out at third base, limiting his chances. The Yankees are utilizing Stanton as a pinch-hitter throughout the American League Division Series.
