Gianni Infantino separates Caribbean region from Concacaf management structure

Gianni Infantino has split Fifa’s administration of the Caribbean from the broader Concacaf bloc. The move designates the Caribbean as a separate management entity from the rest of the North and Central American region. Former Switzerland midfielder Gelson Fernandes has been appointed as the director of member associations for the Caribbean. Fernandes retains his existing responsibilities for Fifa’s African members in this dual capacity. Critics of the leadership have characterized the structural change as an attempt to weaken the alliance within Concacaf that has previously opposed Gianni Infantino. Fifa maintains the reorganization is intended to support the global development of the sport.
