Giants designate catcher Eric Haase for assignment, promote rookie catchers

Summary

The San Francisco Giants have designated veteran catcher Eric Haase for assignment as of July 18, 2026. This decision comes after Daniel Susac returned from the injured list, allowing the team to rely on an all-rookie catching roster consisting of Susac, Drew Cavanaugh, and Jesus Rodriguez. Cavanaugh was set to start in the Giants' first game of the second half of the season. Haase's performance this season included a batting average of.162 with four home runs, alongside some struggles defensively, including ten wild pitches allowed. His designation aims to consolidate the team's future catching plans by focusing on younger talent.
