Giants plan to release wide receiver Braxton Berrios on Sunday

The New York Giants will release veteran wide receiver Braxton Berrios on Sunday. Although he will be removed from the initial 53-man roster, the team intends to bring him back in September. Because Berrios is a vested veteran, he is not subject to waivers. The team may re-sign him following other roster moves or add him to the practice squad with the intent of elevating him for the Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Berrios joined the organization after Gunner Olszewski suffered an Achilles injury during the offseason program. He served as the primary punt returner on the team's preseason depth chart.
