Giants take series opener over Tigers despite being out-hit

The San Francisco Giants defeated the Detroit Tigers 5-2 in a series opener at Oracle Park on August 7, 2026. The Tigers out-hit the Giants 11-5 but struggled to convert hits into runs. Kevin McGonigle scored for Detroit early in the first inning, but Rafael Devers' two-run home run put San Francisco ahead. The Giants' lead was extended by a two-run single from Jung Hoo Lee in the second inning. Willy Adames later added a solo home run in the fifth inning. The Tigers are set to continue the three-game series against the Giants.
