GJ Kinne leads Texas State into Austin to face Texas

Texas State head coach GJ Kinne returns to Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday to lead his team against the Texas Longhorns. The matchup marks a homecoming for Kinne, who signed with the Longhorns as part of the 2007 recruiting class before eventually transferring to Tulsa. Kinne spent his early playing career navigating the spread offense under Gus Malzahn and later studied under NFL coach Chip Kelly. The Texas State program now brings its own high-powered version of the spread offense to Austin for the non-conference game. Kinne previously served as a quarterback for Gilmer before his short tenure on the Forty Acres. He has since built a coaching career rooted in the rapid-tempo offensive schemes he first encountered as a player.
