Glenn Jacobs is considered for Tennessee United States Senate appointment
Summary

Glenn Jacobs, known to WWE fans as Kane, is a primary candidate for a potential United States Senate appointment in Tennessee. The possibility arises if current Senator Marsha Blackburn wins her campaign for governor. Should Blackburn be elected to the governorship, she would be tasked with appointing a replacement to serve the remainder of her Senate term until 2028. Jacobs, who recently concluded two terms as the mayor of Knox County, has publicly endorsed Blackburn for governor. While his name is frequently cited for the vacancy, he faces potential competition for the appointment from Tennessee Representatives Tim Burchett and Chuck Fleischmann. A representative for the Blackburn campaign stated that no decisions regarding a successor will be addressed until a later time.

Jacobs recently finished serving two terms as mayor of Knox County, Tennessee, and he already has the general backing of President Donald Trump. In May 2026, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: “Glenn Jacobs has a BIG political future in Tennessee – A great guy!!!” When covering the end of his run as mayor, Knoxville’s 6 News reported that Jacobs was mulling a run for governor. “When asked about his political future, Jacobs said he would have to consider whether or not it would be the right decision for his family,” Jack Ziskin of Knoxville 6 News reported. “He added that running Knox County is a big job, and he would have to consider if he has the right skill set to run for statewide office and represent all 95 counties in Tennessee.” However, Jacobs is now thought to be out of the running for governor, and Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn is the heavy favorite to be the GOP candidate for the governorship. Blackburn recently told the Nashville Banner that she would serve in the Senate if elected governor. If she does win the election for governor against Democratic nominee Jerri Green and independent candidates, the Republican lawmaker would then have to appoint someone to temporarily fill her Senate seat for a partial term until 2028’s election. (Recent polls show Blackburn with a decisive lead over all potential challengers.) Per Axios, Jacobs is “viewed as a top candidate for the appointment.” It’s worth noting that Jacobs has since endorsed Blackburn for governor, but he is also not the only Republicans in the discussion for Blackburn’s seat. Axios wrote that Tennessee Representatives Tim Burchett and Chuck Fleischmann also want the position. Blackburn’s campaign manager, Abigail Sigler, pushed back on the notion that the senator has already narrowed down the choices for her possible successor. “She has been very clear there will be no discussions about a potential replacement until the appropriate time,” Sigler told Axios.
