Grand Valley State Lakers defeat Ashland in road football game

The No. 6 Grand Valley State Lakers earned a 20-10 road victory against No. 19 Ashland on Saturday, Sept. 12. The Lakers' defense held Ashland scoreless until the final 75 seconds of the game, limiting the opponent to a single touchdown. Quarterback Andrew Schuster opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Evan Furtney, while Brady Drogosh added a 5-yard touchdown pass to Kellen Reed early in the second quarter. Mathew Bacik contributed two field goals to extend the lead. Through three games this season, the Grand Valley State defense has allowed a total of 34 points, averaging 11.3 points per game. Ashland's lone score came on a 6-yard run by Drew Novak in the closing moments of the contest.
