Great Britain handcyclist Callum Russell competes at World Championships in Alabama

Callum Russell, a 30-year-old Great Britain handcyclist, returns to the World Championships in Alabama this weekend. Russell, who was paralyzed from the waist down following a mountain bike crash in 2018, transitioned to competitive para-rowing before moving to handcycling in 2023. He made history two years later by becoming the first British male handcyclist to secure a World Championship medal, claiming bronze in a time trial in Belgium. Outside of his professional cycling career, Russell works as a model and has appeared in various television advertisements. He continues to train under the UK Sport-funded program while balancing his extracurricular opportunities. Russell enters this weekend’s competition as a medal contender for Great Britain.
