Guard Nick Smith Jr. signs one-year contract with Real Madrid

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Smith Jr. has agreed to a one-year deal with Real Madrid. The move follows the Lakers' decision to decline the team's second-year option on his contract earlier this summer. Smith, a former first-round pick who previously played for the Charlotte Hornets and the Lakers, joins the Spanish club to serve as their lead guard. During his three-year NBA career, Smith averaged 7.6 points in 17.5 minutes per game. The Los Angeles Lakers roster move was part of an effort to create more than $50 million in salary cap space. Smith now heads overseas as he looks to expand his role and continue his professional development.
