Guardians fall to Padres in series opener despite offensive improvement

The Cleveland Guardians lost to the San Diego Padres 7-5 in their series opener on Friday night. Gavin Williams struggled on the mound, pitching just 4.1 innings and allowing five earned runs, his most since mid-July. Although the Guardians jumped to an early lead with home runs from Nathanial Lowe and Brayan Rocchio, their pitching inconsistencies ultimately led to the loss. Manager Stephen Vogt mentioned the team's effort at the plate but highlighted the challenges of putting together a complete game. The Guardians aim to avoid a fifth consecutive series loss in Saturday's matchup.
