GUNTHER taps out Nick Aldis at WWE SummerSlam 2026

Nick Aldis put up a fight, but had to tap out to GUNTHER in the end, during their match at WWE SummerSlam 2026.

Nick Aldis came up short against Gunther in his first wrestling match in three years at WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 1.

For the past three years, Nick Aldis has been an on-screen authority figure for WWE, working as General Manager on Friday Night SmackDown. He’s done a bang up job in that position but he’s also been dying to scratch the itch to wrestle again. The company finally gave him that chance at tonight’s (Sat., Aug. 1, 2026) SummerSlam premium live event at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His opponent was GUNTHER, one of the hardest hitters on the roster, and one hell of a tough match for a 39-years-old getting his first taste of action in literally years. Aldis was deeply emotional doing media in the lead up to this match, saying he hoped he doesn’t let anyone down. He damn sure didn’t disappoint. He took a beating early but he battled back, and by the time he locked in the Texas Cloverleaf, the entire crowd was behind him, eager for GUNTHER to tap. He did not, of course, and instead fought his own way back to get his own sleeper hold. Aldis did have enough in him to survive it. They sure treated it like that was the case, with Mickie James, Aldis’ wife, and his son climbing in the ring with him as he was given a standing ovation. A hell of a moment.
