Haeran Ryu leads AIG Women's Open, outperforms Nelly Korda on Day 1

Haeran Ryu shot a 5-under 66 at the AIG Women’s Open on Thursday, taking the early lead at Royal Lytham & St Annes. Nelly Korda, in contrast, struggled with a 2-over 73 and sat outside the top 60 as play continued. Ryu's strong performance comes as she seeks a third consecutive major title, having previously won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the Amundi Evian Championship this season. This summer marks a key stretch for the LPGA, featuring three majors within four tournaments. With Ryu grouped with Korda and past AIG champion Lydia Ko, she birdied four of her first seven holes and closed her round with birdies on 16 and 18.
