Southampton secured a 3-1 victory against Stoke City on August 22, 2026, without defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis. Head coach Tonda Eckert noted that Harwood-Bellis, who has drawn interest from other clubs including Aston Villa, was not included in the matchday squad. Southampton recently rejected an £18 million bid for the 24-year-old. Eckert praised Harwood-Bellis as a professional and expressed confidence in the team despite the speculation surrounding the player. The transfer window remains open, and Eckert mentioned ongoing efforts to bolster the squad if necessary.
