The private Hempstead Golf & Country Club on Long Island has hired architects Dave Zinkand and Joel Weiman to renovate its course. Originally designed by A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1927, the layout will undergo a series of updates starting with bunker work in 2028. Zinkand and Weiman plan to complete the renovation in phases through 2033. The master plan includes moving the signature hazard on the 13th hole downrange to increase the challenge for modern golfers. Designers also intend to adjust the 16th through 18th holes to create more strategic risk and reward opportunities. The project seeks to restore the course’s historical Tillinghast elements while updating the layout to better fit the club’s natural footprint and membership needs.
