High school football teams prepare for fall practices starting Monday

High school football teams in the City Section will begin fall practices on Monday, July 29, 2026. Teams have been preparing through year-round conditioning and training, reducing the chaotic atmosphere typically seen at the start of practice. Carson coach William Lowe noted the nostalgic aspects of opening day have diminished as players are more prepared. The defending champion Carson Colts will hold an intrasquad scrimmage after five days of acclimatization. St. John Bosco, ranked No. 1 in preseason polls, plans for a road opener against Bishop Gorman on August 21. Additionally, girls’ flag football teams will start acclimation practices on August 3.
