HoopsHype ranks Dikembe Mutombo as the 20th greatest center in NBA history

The late Dikembe Mutombo has been named the 20th greatest center in NBA history by a recent HoopsHype ranking. The Hall of Fame defensive standout played 18 seasons in the league, earning eight All-Star selections and four Defensive Player of the Year awards. Mutombo led the NBA in blocks three times, utilizing his shot-blocking and interior finishing to anchor teams including the Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, and Houston Rockets. He joined the Philadelphia 76ers in 2001 and played a significant role in the team's run to the NBA Finals that year, averaging 11.7 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks during his tenure. The defensive specialist retired in 2009 and died in September 2024.
