Houston Astros designate former Braves prospect Braden Shewmake for assignment

Summary

Braden Shewmake, a former top prospect for the Atlanta Braves, has been designated for assignment by the Houston Astros. This decision comes as the Astros activated Jeremy Pena from the Injured List. Shewmake, 28, had played 30 games this season, batting.256 with three home runs, nine RBI, and ten runs scored. Following a brief MLB career that included stints with the Braves and the Chicago White Sox, Shewmake's future remains uncertain as he enters DFA limbo. It is likely he could be outrighted to Triple-A or released by the Astros.
