Houston Rockets waive guard Tristen Newton before training camp

Summary

The Houston Rockets have waived 25-year-old guard Tristen Newton ahead of training camp next month. Newton, who signed a two-way deal in January, played primarily with the NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers and appeared in only one game for the Rockets during the 2026 season, scoring 12 points against the Memphis Grizzlies. The move comes as the Rockets signed rookie center Rafael Castro to a two-way contract, likely to bolster their roster following a disappointing first-round playoff exit. Castro previously played at Providence and George Washington, averaging 15.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in his senior season.
