Houston Texans release rookie running back Noah Whittington during final roster cuts

The Houston Texans waived rookie running back Noah Whittington on August 30, 2026, as part of the team's final roster reductions. Despite a strong training camp performance where he saw time on special teams and as a runner, the team chose to move forward with a 53-man roster carrying four other running backs. Whittington, who holds six years of collegiate experience from Western Kentucky and Oregon, now faces the waiver process. Should he go unclaimed by Monday, the Texans intend to sign him to the practice squad. This move arrives as the organization manages its depth at the position, which currently includes David Montgomery, Woody Marks, Jawhar Jordan, and British Brooks. Houston begins its regular season on September 13 against the Buffalo Bills.
