Ibrahima Konate will leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of June 2026, having confirmed a verbal agreement with Real Madrid. After lengthy negotiations for a contract extension failed, Konate's departure leaves Liverpool without a starting center-back as they prepare for the next season. Liverpool will rely on Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Jeremy Jacquet, and Giovanni Leoni, although concerns surround Gomez's injury history and Van Dijk's age. Liverpool's defense will need to address the potential loss of two senior center-backs by 2027, emphasizing the risk of their current plan.
- •Konate has made 183 appearances for Liverpool since joining in 2021.
- •His last game was a 1–1 draw against Brentford on May 24, 2026.
- •Liverpool confirmed his exit following failed contract negotiations.
- •His move to Real Madrid hinges on the outcome of their presidential election this Sunday.
- •Liverpool will continue with four center-backs next season despite injury concerns.
