Ilya Kharun wins U.S. title in 50m butterfly at nationals

Ilya Kharun claimed the 50m butterfly title at the Toyota USA Swimming National Championships, clocking a time of 22.59 seconds, the fastest in a U.S. pool. Kharun's victory came over nine-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel by 27 hundredths of a second. Born in Montreal and raised in Las Vegas, Kharun is transitioning from representing Canada to the U.S. After announcing his switch in January, he will compete for the U.S. in international events later this year after a one-year wait period. The championships continue through Saturday featuring additional competitions.
