India faces potential trophy ceremony standoff at Women's Asia Cup final

India's women's cricket team is slated to compete in the final of the Women's Asia Cup in Dubai on September 13. Questions have emerged regarding the trophy presentation ceremony, as Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi is expected to attend. Naqvi currently serves as both the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and Pakistan's interior minister. This double role previously caused a diplomatic incident in September 2025, when the India men's team refused to accept the Men's Asia Cup trophy from him following their victory. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia noted at the time that the refusal stemmed from the political position held by the ACC official. It remains unclear if a similar arrangement will be made for the upcoming women's final should India secure a victory.
