Indianapolis Colts name Daniel Jones starting quarterback over Anthony Richardson Sr

Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen announced Thursday that Daniel Jones will start at quarterback for the 2026 NFL season. Jones takes the position after recovering from a torn right Achilles sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars last December. Anthony Richardson Sr., the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will serve as the backup. Richardson has appeared in 17 games over three seasons, recording 2,400 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. The team enters the new season looking to rebound after finishing 8-9 last year, following a collapse that saw them lose seven consecutive games after an 8-2 start. The Colts are scheduled to face the Baltimore Ravens in their season opener on September 13.
