IndyCar drivers tested the 1.7-mile street course in downtown Washington, D.C., on August 22, ahead of the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. Pato O'Ward noted significant bumps on the course, particularly at Turn 1 and Turn 2, which could impact race strategy. Points leader Alex Palou reported enjoying the track despite its challenges, stating it allows for more overtaking opportunities compared to other courses. The condition of the road is critical, especially as it was recently repaved. Qualifying took place later in the day, with Palou posting the fastest practice lap of 56.6145 seconds. The race is scheduled for Sunday, featuring humid weather anticipated to add physical strain on drivers during the 147-lap event.

"Now, IndyCar drivers can finally evaluate the actual track. The 1.7-mile street course in downtown Washington was an unknown commodity, set up for the first — and possibly the last — time for this event celebrating the country's 250th birthday. “We got quite a bit of bumps on the exit of Turn 1, quite a bit of bumps going into 2, the straightaway,” said Pato O'Ward, who won last month at Mid-Ohio.
