An inquest held following the 2026 Manx Grand Prix confirmed that Swiss racer Mauro Poncini died from neck and chest injuries sustained during a qualifying crash. The 29-year-old rider was involved in an incident on 18 August at the Cruickshanks section of the course in Ramsey. Poncini, a newcomer to the event, had been participating in the opening lap of the evening qualifying session on the Mountain Course. The coroner adjourned the proceedings after hearing testimony regarding the crash. Poncini was one of two competitors who died during the qualifying period for the 2026 event. Sam Naughton, 37, also died in a separate crash at Doran's Bend on 19 August.
