Investigation launched into death of Welsh cyclist Tarling in Portugal

The Portuguese public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the death of Welsh cyclist Finlay Tarling, who died in a collision with a vehicle during the Tour of Portugal on August 14. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the vehicle entered the race route. Tarling, 19, was reportedly struck by a vehicle not participating in the race along the eighth stage from Melgaço to Fafe. The driver had initially let a group of cyclists pass before seeking clearance from spectators, who incorrectly indicated that the track was clear. The driver’s alcohol and drug test returned negative results.
