IOC lifts restrictions, allowing Russian athletes at 2028 Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has lifted restrictions against Russia’s participation in the Olympics, paving the way for Russian athletes to compete in the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Previously, Russian athletes only competed as neutral individuals following the country's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The IOC Executive Board's decision also provisionally ends the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, with specific criteria for the use of the national flag and anthem still under review. IOC President Kirsty Coventry emphasized that athletes should not be penalized for their government's actions and that all competitors should promote a peaceful society through sport.
