Iowa expands cooling measures at Kinnick Stadium for football season opener

Iowa Athletics is implementing expanded safety measures for the Sept. 5 football season opener against Northern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium. With temperatures forecasted to reach 92 degrees and heat indices potentially hitting triple digits, fans are now permitted to bring an unlimited number of sealed water bottles and empty refillable bottles into the venue. The department plans to distribute 4,000 refillable bottles at gates A, B, and M to assist those who do not bring their own. Additional cooling areas and expanded first aid resources will be available throughout the stadium to help prevent heat-related illnesses. University of Iowa Health Care personnel will be present, and the Johnson County Ambulance Service will station a UTV outside the facility to provide rapid medical response. Kickoff for the game is set for 3:15 p.m. CT, with television coverage available on the Big Ten Network.
