Iowa rules Tyler Brown and LJ Phillips Jr. out against Iowa State

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed Tuesday that safety Tyler Brown and running back LJ Phillips Jr. will miss Saturday's Cy-Hawk game against Iowa State due to injuries. Phillips, a transfer from South Dakota who led the FCS in rushing last season, sustained a high ankle sprain during the team's 40-0 victory over Northern Illinois. Brown, a defensive back who joined the program from James Madison, remains sidelined from previous injury concerns. To address these absences, Iowa has updated its depth chart to include Nathan McNeil and Xavier Williams as backups to Kamari Moulton in the backfield. Anthony Hawkins will start at strong safety in place of Brown, with Xavier Styles and Marcello Vitti providing additional coverage at the position. Iowa continues its preparations for the upcoming matchup against its in-state rival.
