Isiah Pacheco joins Lions, expected to back up Jahmyr Gibbs

Summary

Isiah Pacheco signed with the Detroit Lions in August 2026 after David Montgomery was traded to Houston. Pacheco's role is expected to be a backup to Jahmyr Gibbs rather than a direct replacement for Montgomery. Last season, Pacheco's performance fell off significantly due to injury and competition from Kareem Hunt, leading to minimal fantasy relevance. Pacheco's average of 6.7 points per game in 2025 highlighted his struggles. Despite this, at 26 years old, he still has the potential for a resurgence within a strong Lions offense if Gibbs misses time.
