In the main event, MMA Fighting’s No. 1 Pound-for-Pound fighter Islam Makhachev goes for the first defense of his welterweight title as he takes on challenger Ian Machado Garry. Makhachev looks for another championship victory after previously defending the lightweight title a UFC record four consecutive times, while Garry brings a 10-1 UFC record into the contest. Both fighters need to weigh 170 pounds or less for the title fight. In the co-main event, strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern defends her belt against Gillian Robertson. Dern won a vacant title in the absence of Zhang Weili with a unanimous decision win over Virna Jandiroba at UFC 321 and she can strengthen her claim to being the true 115-pound champion with a win over Robertson, who can become the first Canadian woman ever to win UFC gold. This Saturday, Garry challenges Makhachev for the welterweight title in the main event of UFC 330. It’s Makhachev’s first defense of his welterweight title, and much has been made of the potential size advantage Garry, a lifelong 170-pounder, would carry into the fight. That conversation picked up steam earlier this week after the two did a faceoff where Garry didn’t appear significantly bigger than Makhachev, with Makhachev even saying he thought Garry would be taller. Garry, meanwhile, put it down to a difference in shoes, and it seems like Garry might have the right of it, because following the UFC 330 pre-fight press conference on Thursday, Makhachev and Garry faced off once again, and this time Garry appeared noticeably bigger than the champion. The co-main event on Saturday features Mackenzie Dern making the first defense of her strawweight title against Gillian Robertson, and while both women took some shots at one another during the press conference, their face-off was similarly cordial. UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev is set to face Ian Machado Garry in the main event. Recognized as the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, Makhachev made a flawless transition to 170 pounds as he dominated Jack Della Maddalena to become champion. Now Makhachev faces a very stiff test in his bid to defend the title as Garry enters the fight with a 17-1 record overall including a 10-1 resume in the UFC. In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern looks to make the first defense of her strawweight title when she takes on fellow grappler Gillian Robertson. Dern has won her last three fights in a row including a victory over Virna Jandiroba when they battled it out for the vacant 115-pound title. As for Robertson, she enters the fight off five wins in a row including victories over Amanda Lemos, Marina Rodriguez and Michelle Waterson-Gomez. This is her first attempt at becoming UFC champion. Podcaster and comedian Joe Rogan serves as color commentator alongside UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier with Jon Anik providing play-by-play for the entire card. Of course, Bruce Buffer serves as the announcer for the event like usual. Megan Olivi serves as the in-arena reporter providing support throughout the event on Saturday. If Makhachev is successful, he’ll break Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive wins in UFC history, which currently stands at 16 in a row. But Garry seeks to stop Makhachev’s momentum in his first attempt at becoming UFC champion following back-to-back wins over Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates. In the co-main event, Dern is also attempting to defend her strawweight title for the first time when she faces a fellow grappler in Robertson in a five-round fight.
